New premium version released : search for VCM Premium in market. Premium version works for UK and US
What this app does :
This app lets you use your home Vonage World account from your cell phone in US. You can call international numbers directly from your cell phone without having to be near the Vonage device. Please refer to Vonage for list of countries you can call for free.
Usage :
username : Enter username to your Vonage Web Account
(phone number will not work , you can find username from vonage website)
password : Enter password to your Vonage Web Account
number to call : Can be typed in or picked up from Contacts using Address Book button.
number formats :
domestic :
1 followed by 10 digit phone number : 1xxxxxxxxxx
international :
011 followed by country code followed by phone number : 011YYYxxxxxxxxxx
How it works:
1 .On your android phone Enter username , password, number to call and press "Initiate Call".
2. App takes a few moments to setup the call.
3. The app then dials your vonage number using your cell phone network. Vonage home phone will ring for a second (dont pick up).
4. The call will then be automatically forwarded to your destination number and you can talk from your cell phone.
5. repeat .
6. If the app is unable to cancel forwarding, you will see a message on the screen. You can click "Reset" to cancel forwarding manually.
Known Issues :
1. The App does not work for versions of Android prior to 1.6. Working on a fix for this. - Resolved
2. Some times even after the call is complete, calling vonage number redirects call to previously dialled number - Resolved Also added "Reset" button to force cancel forwarding.
3. If you have more than one phone on your vonage account. The app picks one by default. There is no option to pick one number to use - Working on fix.
4. The app cancels existing forwarding or Simulring settings when making a call. - Working on a fix
Important Notes:
Cell phone minutes will be charged.
Not all destination countries are free to call. Please refer Vonage for the list.
After call is connected, the app tries to cancel forwarding. App needs data connection to be available for this operation. In case data network is not available (like if you are on an EDGE network , or you move to an area with no 3G or wifi network) the app is unable to cancel forwarding. You will have to come back to the app screen and click "Reset" in this case.
You have to be in the US to make use of this app. Not tested from overseas. Not responsible for the charges.
Disclaimer :
The app is provided as is . This app is merely meant as a way to ease dialing from a phone. Not affiliated to Vonage. Use at your own risk. Developer not responsible for cellphone charges or Vonage charges resulting from use of the app.

What does the app actually do, other than calling my vonage phone? When I pick it up nothing happens.
ReplyDeletePC, if you have a Vonage World Plan , you can call internationally for free by entering the number to call in the "Number to call" field. Cellular minutes will be counted. Please try again with the correct format and let me know how it works out for you. Thanks for trying.
ReplyDeleteI just d/l the app. from android Market and followed the instructions and it doesn't ring my home phone !
ReplyDeleteJake, do you see an an error message when you try ?
ReplyDeleteNo error message other than then the number you are dialling is not valid. It tries to dial my home # but the string of numbers isn't broken by any pause or delay after my home #. It just has my home number then the international #, BTW its a number I dial a lot so I know how to dial the UK.
ReplyDeletejake . you should enter the UK number into the "number to call" field in the following format . 01144xxxxxxx ..where xxxx is the number . keep in mind not all UK calls are free. Please verify free numbers from vonage website.
ReplyDeleteIs this app available for IPhone?
ReplyDeletei just tryied and it work for the first time then next time i try it and its keep on ringing its does not stop or ring to the other number that i m trying it for some reason do u know y
ReplyDeleteI just tried your appl. looks like the problem that the app has is that it change the setting on the Vonage call fwd to instantly and does not put it back to the previous setting. Maybe you can do something like what Vonage contact center does where in transfer you call without changing you setting plus you can select which phone you want to ring to pick the phone call.
ReplyDelete@Kumar - I think there is, but I didnt write it.
ReplyDelete@arpit - Arpit that happens when the call takes long to inistiate from the phone due to cell phone network congestion. Please retry it should work .
@Hector - It will not cancel call fwd if the call goes for a long time because http retries time out. What you can do is after the call when you see the call log, press the back button. It will cancel the forwarding settings.
Please let me know how it works out for you guys.
well not its works fine but after calling number and wheni hang up if some one calls that vonage number it forward to that number right away untill i log in into vonage account and cancle it but other then it works fine for me
ReplyDelete@arpit - It will not cancel call fwd if the call goes for a long time because http retries time out. What you can do is after the call is over when you see the call log, press the back button. It will cancel the forwarding settings. You will also see a popup saying "forwarding cancelled"
ReplyDeleteCan we have a button to cancel / reset the forwarding. Service
ReplyDelete@lavusara work in progress. Will release in a day or two.thanks for the feedback.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 lines under my Vonage acct. Some how it gets confused when trying to dial, since it dials a very long number: #1 followed by #2 in 1XXX-XXX-XXXX formats so basically it's dialing 22 numbers, so I get immediately a wrong number dialed announcement, from my mobile operator. Some how the SW would have to be able to select which phone line should the call be madre from.
ReplyDelete@ekmenet. Will get that fixed. Can you plead send me an email at androappdev@gmail.com. need some info from you

ReplyDeleteV 1.3 has solved the problem I had with 2 lines under same Vonage Acct. Works as described, in a Nexus One phone. Keep in mind that you have to use the correct dialing formats, (if your address book has GSM universal format: “+ Country Code - Number”, will NOT work) and the process can take a few seconds, before it dials, depending on how fast Vonage servers respond. Reset bottom, very useful, to make sure you cancel "call forwarding” feature after each call. You need to have either WiFi or Edge/3G connection for the call to be initiated properly.
ReplyDeleteI have a question about the minutes used? Say you are in a foreign country and utilize this app, will you be charged international roaming rates by your carrier?
ReplyDelete@chris. Yes . Call originates from your cell phone to your home vonage number. So airtime will be charged . If the originating phone is not in US it will be an international call.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to get this work. I am able to Login successfully to my Vonage account. But when I try to place the call nothing happens. Nothing on my Android Screen nor on the home phone (DOESN'T RING). I am using a 2.1 Custom ROM don't know if that would affect the application in any way.
ReplyDelete@WAZEE Do you have the latest update? It is more responsive. You will see updates on screen. Email me at androappdev@gmail.com with results after you update app to latest from market. Thanks
ReplyDeleteOnly my vonage phone rings, it is not forwarded. Do I need to change settings in vonage?
ReplyDelete@David. Do you have the latest update from market? Its normal for home phone to ring once. Can you please retry and see if that helps.
ReplyDeleteamazing app ... tons of thanks .. really appreciate it
ReplyDeleteFor people who travel it would be cool if you could also incorporate 'Vonage Access' numbers. So depending on your location it would still be a local call. You could even use the android.location package.
ReplyDeleteIt used to work very well for me till today...it is just calling my landline and not forwarding the call...i have the latest update!!
ReplyDeleteDoes not work on Droid on Verizon.
ReplyDeleteKaakku/Narendar, it works ok for me. Can you please send me an email with the problem you are facing. Will be glad to take a look . thanks
ReplyDeleteandroappdev@gmail.com
It works now. I had to play with adjustments on my vonage account call forwarding feature and Voicemail feature.

ReplyDeleteHi - I am getting login failed and check your password error even for the correct login information. Could you let me know if any setup needed in my vonage home phone?
ReplyDeleteI just purchased and downloaded tonight and when I call all that happens is my vonage phone rings and never forwards. Are there any specific settings on my vonage acct I should be double checking?
ReplyDelete@murugu you have to use username to login. using phone number as username will not work.
ReplyDelete@jason and melissa. Are you using the free version or premium version. could you email me at androappdev@gmail.com if theproblem persists. I have seen occasionally vonage does takes some to activate forwarding after it is set. It corrects itself if I retry.i would recommend retry if that happens.
All I did on my Vonage account was to reduce the call forwarding time to 5 seconds and increse the voicemail kick in time to 45 seconds. Also its a good idea to disable the answering machine if you have one while trying to forward the call.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeletePurchased it today. I get a login failure when I click login in setup screen (Sprint HTC EVO 4G, Android 2.1 update 1). I am sure my username/passwd is right. Infact I even changed them to be sure, tried even the PIN as the passwd.
I am sure, I am doing something wrong, help me out.

I got an email from the developer that I should be using the "username" and not the phone no. as user. Now it works great.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot for this cool product.

no key # for this app. what if i reset my phone and have to re-install the app. do i have to buy it again.
ReplyDeletei have 1.6 it rings but it doesn't forward
ReplyDeleteIs my info secure? Do u store my account info?
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that this should work when I am in Europe and connect onto a wi-fi network. I am presently in Canada. I have closed my mobile network (Verizon) and connected to a wifi network. I tried calling someone in the UK and it works.
ReplyDeleteShould it not also work when I am in Europe and connected to a wifi network?
So Basically what this does is take control of your call forward function on your Vonage number, replace it with the number you want to call and then call your vonage number. Call is then forwarded to the number you want to reach.
ReplyDeleteOnce call is terminated, it should turn off your call forward function.
The problem I see is that it does not restore the call forward function you had originally set up. To do that you need to log into your account and reset it.
Is this how it functions?
If so is it safe to give the app access to my account?
does it work for Blackberry storm device, or do u have something similar for Blackberry storm
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteWould you please make app for Windows Mobile as well
